Reception Teacher- Miss Slicker

Welcome to Reception!

Reception is the start of your child's full time school journey. Your child will acquire the skills that will be crucial throughout their school life.  Most importantly, they will learn how to read and write.

The Class Teacher is Miss Slicker

The Teaching Assistant is Mrs Zaffar

Ways to help your child prepare:

  • Develop independence
  • Self-care
  • Hygiene
  • Eating routine
  • Listening

Don't worry!

The Early Years team are all very experienced and your child will be well looked after. Children might be distressed at first but they will settle in quickly.

This half term in Reception class, we have lots of exciting activities planned.  As our theme is ‘winter’, we will be learning about the changing seasons and the changes that happen. We will go on a winter walk looking at our natural environment and then create winter pictures.  We will also be learning about Chinese New Year and how it is celebrated in the UK as well as in China.  In Phonics, we will continue to recognise phase 2 and phase 3 sounds and learn to read and write simple words and sentences.  The stories we are focusing on this term are: ‘The stickman, Snow Globe and Flashlight’. Emphasis will be on understanding elements of the story, such as the title, main characters, story setting and story structure.  In maths, we will continue to practise addition and subtraction sentences using pictorial and concrete methods, as well as learning the names and properties of 2D and 3D shapes.  During P.E. we will progress to more fluent styles of moving through dance.  Through the continuous provision, we will be learning to show resilience and perseverance when facing challenges.
